I thought I&#8217;d spend the week making the game sexier and fixing some of the problems I noticed last time I exhibited.<\/p>\n<p>Most importantly, I changed the tutorials to be visual and animated. I noticed a lot of people missing or misunderstanding them last time, and I think this makes things pretty clear cut.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1062\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1062\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1062 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.bootdiskrevolution.com\/NEW_BLOG\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/tutorial.gif?resize=480%2C270\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1062\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The tutorial doesn&#8217;t cover the action in the actual level.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I beefed up the size of the pistol bullets. It&#8217;s a small change but they feel much more powerful now! Last time I exhibited, some players totally missed that the pistols were even firing, which should have clued me in that they felt piddly right there.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1066\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1066\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1066 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.bootdiskrevolution.com\/NEW_BLOG\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/pistols.gif?resize=480%2C270\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1066\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">They look so teeny tiny in comparison. ~*^_^*~<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I changed how particles work. Now they&#8217;re divided into two layers &#8212; one draws on front of the action, the other draws behind. There&#8217;s a lot of particles in some cases, like when Wryn air-dashes, and it was easy to lose her in all the effects. Now she draws on top of them so you have a much better idea of what&#8217;s going on.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1063\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1063\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1063 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.bootdiskrevolution.com\/NEW_BLOG\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/airDash.gif?resize=480%2C270\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1063\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">You can also see I simplified the HUD a bit! I felt it was taking up too much space, and the words were kind of redundant.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Speaking of particles, I also tried my hand at making explosions more organic.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1065\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1065\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1065 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.bootdiskrevolution.com\/NEW_BLOG\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/explosions.gif?resize=480%2C270\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1065\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The new ones might need to be bigger, but I prefer how they look.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And finally, I&#8217;m trying out this full-screen effect, which will be reserved for delivering the final hit to an end-of-level boss.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1064\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1064\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1064 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.bootdiskrevolution.com\/NEW_BLOG\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/bossKO_O.gif?resize=480%2C270\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1064\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Blast Jumper isn&#8217;t an end-of-level boss, haha. I&#8217;m just using it to illustrate the effect.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>So it&#8217;s a lot of small changes, but they were things I&#8217;d been wanting to fix for a long time, and I had them all done within a day or two of starting the week.<\/p>\n<p>After that I began a mad dash to create this giant Bleed 2 poster to sell at the exhibition, which will ideally double as the game&#8217;s box art. It&#8217;s taking forever!
